Trends: rooted, encouraged, surprising
Trend Flash Autumn/Winter 2010/11
Fashion Focuses on Realism
A new realism is gaining ground in the fashion for Autumn/Winter 2010/11, fashion must “work” for everyday life; the focus is on perfectly normal (street) life. The key silhouette: skinny legs. Tops feature generous layering. Shapes envelope the body in a loose fit, anything goes from short to approx. knee-length. Strong separates make for diverse fashion through highly individual combinations – seamless total looks are taboo. The matching shoes: familiar styles will remain but there will be plenty of innovation in leather finish thanks to, for instance, highly versatile, dull and roughened finishes and eye-catching graduated colour shades.

Hall 4
The Premium World to boast a new structure
At the GDS Premium World in Hall 4 approx. 170 international exhibitors will be presenting their new collections for Autumn/Winter 2010/11. New improved segmentation into the three areas prime² (prime squared), upper style and white cubes eases orientation: in the new prime² area the trade fair’s functional, light stand construction system provides high-quality labels offering up-to-date design and tradition-rich craftsmanship with an ideal presentation platform. At a separate prime² reception visitors will be welcomed personally. Admission is free. Also freely accessible is the upper style Area. The difference to prime² is that here high-quality collections are exhibited on exhibitors’ individual stands. Admission to the white cubes Area with trendsetting and progressive high fashion will remain exclusive as per usual.

New Femininity

The look is inspired by a romantic and unconventional bohemian style and the urban-glamour of modern cities. Shapes are rounded and exact, deliberately foregoing extra-high heels and rich details. Pataugas – Paris
Sophisticated Sneakers …
The French label Pataugas – Paris comprises sophisticated sneakers “the way the French love and buy them. They are enchanting, unique, playful and high-quality.” This is how Martina Denkstein, owner of the trading agency of the same name in charge of distributing this line on the German market, describes the style of the collection. Organic materials like cotton for the uppers, latex for the soles and vegetable-dyed lining leathers are used here. There are styles for women, men and kids.
A special highlight: for the company’s 60th anniversary star designer Jean-Paul Gaultier cooperated on collection design. >>> Pataugas

Pargiana
A Unique Art Form
“Shoe making is an art form and, as such, it should be unique” is the philosophy of Greek shoe designers Doxis and Natasa Pargianas. Under the label Pargiana they create luxurious women’s shoes. The style: classic elegance blended with new design. The siblings learnt the trade from their father Nicolas Pargianas, who founded the little family business in Thessaloniki in the mid 1970s.

S_TA
Future on your Feet
The shoes from this brand-new Berlin label S_TA (pronounced “Esta”) “are designed to feel as if you were wearing the future on your feet” according to company accounts. Creating her styles with a slightly futuristic feel Esther Luckhardt was inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding: origami. Clear lines and clean shapes determine the look while sophisticated folding is shown off to its best advantage by foregoing visible seams and distracting material combinations. >>> S_TA

Düsseldorf Bloggers
Go to Rio? Or still prefer Düsseldorf?
Going to Düsseldorf? Then "GotoRio" is exactly the right place for you. Created by 3 Rhineland bloggers "GotoRio" is a highly subjective online travel blog that reports on their personal (travel) preferences. And these cover nearly the whole world with the exception of Rio. And since the authors live and work in Düsseldorf, this city also occupies a very special place in their virtual world. Over 30 restaurant and shopping tips can be found here – always authentic and always described in a highly entertaining style.
"GotoRio" introduces us to one of the currently most exotic and hip locations in Düsseldorf – "Bobotie". Capetown cuisine comes to Bilk – where they serve ostrich, springbok and king clip fish along with South African wines. The restaurant is quite small so make sure to reserve a table.
Small, hip and exotic – adjectives that also describe the "Luang Prabang" in Flingern. In this modern setting here you will find South-East Asian – or to be more precise – Laotian cuisine. The food is inexpensive and prepared fresh, hot is really hot and the cocktails are infamous.
