GDS Summary: Shoe Retailers look to the Future with Optimism
Next GDS in Düsseldorf from 10 to 12 September 2010

This is your personal SHOESletter offering a positive summary of events after three days of GDS and Global Shoes: To the tune of 29,500 trade visitor from throughout the world travelled to Düsseldorf to be convinced by the wide variety of brands and the wide-ranging information events. A large “dose” of optimism made for a positive mood and concentrated working atmosphere. 12 to 14 March saw a total of 1,120 exhibitors from 40 countries present the latest shoe and bag styles. At GDS alone 1,750 collections were on display for Autumn/Winter 2010/11 and the current season. The next GDS at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre will run from 10 to 12 September 2010.

GDS – the Indicator for the Sector
Optimism and Good Mood

Summing up Kirstin Deutelmoser, the GDS Director, said: “GDS was a key indicator for the sector. We felt optimism and a good mood paired with a concentrated though relaxed working atmosphere on all three days.” Those exhibitors polled also unanimously reported that buyers were in a very jovial spirits and the talks they held struck a basic positive note that had not been felt for quite some time now reflecting an avid interest in the new fashion details for the next season. And this is how the Düsseldorf shoe trade fairs GDS – International Event for Shoes & Accessories – und GLOBAL SHOES – leading trade show for sourcing – drew to a close on Sunday with a large “dose” of optimism and more than satisfactory results. In total approx. 29,500 trade visitors used the trade fair to gather information on the 2010/11 Autumn/Winter season and place their orders in Düsseldorf. Almost one in two visitors came from abroad, the top 5 apart from Germany being the Benelux, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Austria.

Testimonials and Moods amongst international retailers
Cheerfully entering the new season

The verdict was unanimous after three days of shoe fair: a good mood is prevailing amongst international retailers. This impression is verified by data from the representative GDS survey: three quarters of all GDS visitors were buyers with a say in the decision-making process. 94% rated the trade fair as good to very good and were very satisfied with their visit to the fair. In addition to the versatile ranges on show visitors predominantly praised the “proximity to trends”, the information side events and the GDS fashion shows as being especially rewarding service options. Show kick off with splendour and glamour

Catwalk shows on the highest level ensured a glamorous opening of GDS. The internationally successful star model Katrin Thormann presented what Autumn/Winter 2010/11 has in store for fashion and shoe retail. Witnessing this in the front row were actress Katja Flint and the singles luge Bronze Medal winner Natalie Geisenberger.
