GDS Trendlab Autumn/Winter 2012/13
The fashion proposal for Autumn/Winter 2012/13 is classy, colourful and expressive. The elegance of days gone by clashes with cool sportiness and hand crafted details. GDS offers a sneak preview of the most important trend themes for the coming season.
Despite all the uncertainty currently surrounding developments in the world fashion, the coming Winter season oozes with optimism and thrilling contrasts. Drama, traditionalism and trendy sportiness form a stylistic mix here. Borders blur and a wide variety of influences and styles blend into a modern thematic mixture. Scarcely any one trend comes alone – there are new combinations and bold experiments everywhere. Extraordinary material combinations and strong colours evidence this widespread boldness to break new fashion ground. Sportiness and elegance feature in all three GDS lifestyle themes: ’Genuine‘, ’Updated‘ and ’Magnetic‘. All in all, the collections unite more class, more colour and more chic. Exquisite fabrics and complex high-tech finishes with shine heralding a brilliant comeback are centrestage for this new fashion that revisits various style eras. The colour scheme is caught between warm red tones, cool midnight nuances and neutral shades.
Genuine – Crafted Elegance
A touch of college, a trace of hunting romanticism and the folksy ethnic air from Andean peoples merge into a potpourri of styles that all have one thing in common: craftsmanship and tradition. The jodhpurs, quilted coats and cardigans here are very British. Heritage is a buzzword for both materials and silhouettes. Coarse plaids and woollen capes are highlighted with fringes, Scottish tartans combined with double-face fabrics and shaggy furs. Rustic materials such as Tweed, corduroy and felt meet with waxed cotton and leather. The perfect match for this rugged theme are striking lambskin-lined boots with profiled soles and college shoes, Chelsea boots and even loafers fitted with tassel flaps and snaffles. Lyra perforations and wing tips grace masculine Oxford shoes and eye-catching platform pumps. The colour range features strong autumnal foliage tones revolving around cognac, burgundy and green, combined with classic blue and grey.
Updated – Realistic Elegance
This re-definition of classics captivates us with timeless elegance and purist sportswear elements revisited by a combination with finest fabrics. Egg-shape coats and overlapping sleeves for blazers and dresses produce an exciting interplay of silhouettes. Understatement and purism are underlined by graphic elements. The 60s stark plain “après-ski fashion” with slim-fit stirrup pants and choked up roll-neck pullovers brings classy sportiness into play. Luxurious materials such as merino wool, cashmere and silk are teamed with technically coated materials and patent leather. Shine meets matt surfaces, texture meets no-frills lasts. Quilted and backed materials make for plenty of volume. Architecturally cut pumps, minimalist laced shoes and voluminous boots adapt to this look. The basic colour range goes from clear winter white and grey nuances to neutral and pale naturals.
Magnetic – Dramatic Elegance
Drama, sex appeal and retro elegance determine the passionate fashion theme inspired especially by the 60s and 70s. Shimmering silk blouses and loose-fit Marlene pants are re-interpreted. Fabrics with a flowing drape, jacquards, bouclés, exquisite nappa and savage animal prints are representative of the very extrovert and rich material selection. All that glitters is gold again: metallics and scintillating sequins are combined with opulent fabrics and luxurious, coloured furs. Chanel-type tie necks, fur collars and broad lapels evidence this new pleasure derived from decoration. Trousers are either extremely slim-fit or extremely loose. Swingy ankle-length coats play around the leg while dresses and skirts vary from mini to calf length. Exquisite multi-coloured snake leather decorates elegant boots and seductive high heels. Plain, straight-cut 70s-look boots are in evidence alongside chic court shoes and ankle heels. Impulsive colours like red, brass, copper, orange and fuchsia are contrasted with petrol, violet and dark midnight shades.
