As it is tradition, Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director GDS and tag it!, and André Karkalis (Karkalis Communications) welcomed participants of the 6th GDS Press Walk in the press center. Prior to the opening press conference at Areal Böhler, the guided tour across the premises of Messe Düsseldorf presented shoe trends for the upcoming season.
This year, members of the press received all necessary data and information about the participating GDS exhibitors together with a bag sponsored by Levi’s and goodies sponsored by Melvin & Hamilton and Allpresan.
The Press Walk started off at GDS’ press center with a presentation by Carmen Arias Castellano, General Secretary of CEC Footwear Industry. She introduced “Fit2Comfort”, a project for the development and establishment of a qualification profile for health and comfort footwear supported by the European Commission.
In POP UP Hall 4 the stand of SLEM, the international innovation and training institute for footwear and leather, was the next Press Walk stop. Here, members of the press could get a glimpse at the future of footwear.
In a “Mini-SLEMinar” Nicoline van Enter, Director SLEM, presented tomorrow’s technologies when shoes will be manufactured by robots or can be grown in laboratories. Are you curious? Then don’t miss the “Mini-SLEMinar” at Stand B40 on Tuesday and Wednesday at 1 p.m.
In STUDIO Hall 5 he answered questions about shoe trends before he took some time to look around and get an overview of upcoming trends by talking to several exhibitors about his favourite collections.
Next stop HIGHSTREET Hall 3. There, Holger Zytur, CEO of Nanogate Textile & Care Systems, welcomed the Press Walk participants for a live demonstration of EMPIRE, a dirt blocker for sneakers.
After an impressively demonstration journalists were impressed by the spray’s effectiveness. Not only dirt but also chocolate sauce and ketchup could be easily removed.
The spray passed the live test on chucks made from white canvas as well as on Dr. Martens boots made from smooth leather and Adidas Gazelle sneakers made from suede leather.
From February 7 – 9 for the last time GDS is taking place on the fair grounds of Messe Düsseldorf. From now on, Igedo Company will take over the shoe fair’s organization on behalf of Messe Düsseldorf. Tuning in the upcoming change the last two stops of this year’s Press Walk – trend shooting and press conference - where held at the new location: Areal Böhler in Düsseldorf-Heerdt.
Taking place in the old forging shop at Areal Böhler for the first time, GDS’ grand trend shooting offered a trendy outlook on the Autumn/Winter season 2017/18. In parallel with the extensive photo session, Dr. Claudia Schulz gave interviews about the trendiest colours, shapes and materials for the upcoming season.
The final highlight of GDS’ Press Walk was the opening press conference with the Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry (HDS|L) and the Federal Association of Footwear Retailers (BDSE), which was also held at the old forging shop. This time the press conference anchored by Dr. Claudia Schulz was hosted by Messe Düsseldorf and the IGEDO Company which will take on responsibility for the shoe fair from now on.
At the end of GDS’ opening press conference Kristin Deutelmoser thanked all clients and staff members of all GDS fairs so far and symbolically passed on the microphone to Mr. Kronen and Mrs. Kähler for a complete relaunch of the “new” shoe fair.
