Bags building on sophisticated understatement
Emma Brown bags are made to catch the eye but never upstage their wearer. They are companions for every day and occasion, for work, going out, shopping, strolling or being a mum. Which is why some of these tote bags are large enough to hold a pair of loafers in addition to a laptop and toiletry bag. The British designer of the same name in her elected home of Germany loves chic understatement. Her style is urban and luxurious blending German precision and a fine British sense of humour with Italian craftsmanship. She thinks the personal patina that leather bags acquire from use is wonderful.
Her collection for Autumn/Winter 2009/10 focuses on the glamour of the late 70s and the edge of the early 80s. Alongside those typical, plain tote bags there are new elegant shapes with perforated patterns and sportier styles with fringes in evidence. Contrasts play a crucial role here: e.g. velvety soft suede is combined with cool patent leather while preppy bowties are “framed” by metallic zippers in heavy metal style. Each style comes in a variety of colours. Apart from black, fir green and a blazing red are proposed. Featured for the first time next season will be belts.
The production site is in Bologna. Emma Brown supports “Fair Trade”: The leathers used are subjected to strict controls, metal accessories are low-nickel, and linings are made of cotton fabrics. Recommended retail prices are between € 140 and € 400.
