Fashion Focuses on Realism

A new realism is gaining ground in the fashion for Autumn/Winter 2010/11, fashion must “work” for everyday life; the focus is on perfectly normal (street) life. The key silhouette: skinny legs. Tops feature generous layering. Shapes envelope the body in a loose fit, anything goes from short to approx. knee-length. Strong separates make for diverse fashion through highly individual combinations – seamless total looks are taboo. The matching shoes: familiar styles will remain but there will be plenty of innovation in leather finish thanks to, for instance, highly versatile, dull and roughened finishes and eye-catching graduated colour shades.

Legs are meant to be slim and long, extended further by shoes and boots with high heels. Court shoes preferably “rest” on extra-high heels and platforms. Boots and bootees come in x versions and all imaginable leg lengths and widths, ranging from skin-tight like leggings to extra loose like angler’s boots.

Extremely profiled soles are hip. Boots often come with high lacing while the classic desert boot style has developed into a 4-season basic. Little straps on pumps and criss-cross ribbons or Velcro fasteners on ankle boots stress the ankle. High-heeled summer sandals are made fit for winter with the help of hosiery thereby bringing trend accessories into play: legwear is enormously important, single-coloured, opaque, ribbed, patterned, embroidered, etc. … and promises specialist shoe retailers lucrative added sales.

Nothing doing without belts – which are mainly narrow and extremely long “taming” those voluminous, loose-fit tops around the waist. Bags are simpler again and very big. Jewellery also loves large formats and caps or hats are indispensable for fashionable heads. Extra-long shawls and giant foulards are cast around necks and shoulders.

Rooted stands for a natural image, for everything to ensure well-being. The colours are quiet: beige, brown, greige, auburn and grey. Leathers are cosy, soft and brushed. Lambskin, fur (real + fake), jerseys, soft suede, soft padding and plenty of knit are part of the game here.

Encouraged demonstrates an energetic style, power and coolness. Colours and materials are dark and shiny and metallic elements play a reserved “cameo” role. Padded leather, thickly applied high-tech coatings, biker styles, sharply contoured shoulders, boots with extremely high legs and uniform details paint the picture here.

For the Surprising theme the name says it all: the look here is playful, unconventional, charming and, at times, shocking with a bohemian attitude that is hard to overlook. Striking mixtures and collages come in strong colours and patterns feature as checks, washed-down motifs, blurred wool patterns, soft-focus drawings and patchworks. Favourite colours include red tones and violet with a tinge of red, pink and berry.
