Trend Report with Niels Holger Wien

Trend expert Niels Holger Wien shows the most important trends and issues for next season. Amongst others, „wilderness“ will be an important topic. Closeness to nature, tradition and functionality play an important role in this context. It is new, that shoes will not be that „vintage“ any longer.

Biker- and Working-boots (along the lines of climbing-shoes) are typical for the issue „wilderness“. A lot of details like lacings and rough profiles emphasize the closeness to nature.

In contrast to that, the subject „calmness“ counts on coolness and reluctance. The shoes are more chic, and particularly more plain. The models appeal clean and classy by making use of colours like grey and blue. Often the leather has special textures and imprintings.

According to the „calmness“ issue, a special shoe was created for the GDS. It goes with the lines of the GDS’ keyvisual and was made from icelandic atlantic perch. The extraordinary shoe is a highlight for every trendsetter.

Summer’s trend will continue: it will be played with leather in the future, too. This woman’s shoe shows the battik pattern very well. One more time the colours are black and grey.

The third trend issue was called „charming“ by the GDS. The models are decorative and chic. They were inspired by the 60’s – as well as the decoration lamps of the shop window remind of vibratory skirts. High heels, lacquer and bows emphasize femaleness.

Quotes and pictures from popular movies such as „Belle de Jour“ decorate the shop window of the „charming“ topic and refer to the 60’s. This ankleboot with ist leopard-print and the red sole is made for women with fashoin-courage.

Besides the three main topics for next season autumn/winter 2011/12 there has also been announced ten focus subjekts. Niels Holger Wien explains, that it is difficult to summarize every trend into one topic. The fragmented marked ensures that there are a lot of different directions.

Bootlegs with a middle-height, so-called „Midshaft-boots“ will loom large next winter. After Overknee and Ankleboot, the Midshaft-boots will be worn with vulcanized soles, fur or totally robust.

The rough shoes and boots are called „Functional Boots“ and remind of working boots. The extraordinary lacing is very important, as well as the bulky soles and the gross profile.

The same topic also contains wellington boots. The fashion classic can be announced as „cult-boot“. It stands for functionality, because of its water- and heat-resistence and the protection of bumpy ground.

Next season, leather will be combined with a lot of different materials like fur, knit or wool. A further trend goes with this: vulcanized soles.

Stiletto Boots with fine and elegant heels clearly demonstrate femaleness. Actually, stilletto heels are used often. The lacing ensures a certain robustness and aerates the shoe. Laces will no longer stay a no-go – actually they might become a trend.

Warm fur and coats are the branche’s reaction on the last cold winter. Niels Holger Wien shows a boot which, again, is constructed with lacing and fur. This picture shows a rabbit skin.

Also the „Arctic Boots“ protect from coldness. This time they are not made with fur. The protection is guaranteed by technical materials. The shoes and boots remind of eskimo- and skiing-boots. This one is decorated with a network which looks like there is fallen snow on it.

It’s going to be elegant and glimmering with the topic „Shiny“. Classic loafers or loafers with heels – lacquer gives every shoe a charming look. Also men’s shoes get more chic.
