With its futuristic flair this boutique turns heads exerting magnetic appeal on everyone strolling by. And it does this even without having an actual display window. Situated on Amsterdam’s luxurious PC Hooftstraat Shoebaloo is indeed one of a kind.

Dark mirror glass windows present us just a tiny sneak peak of the extensive high-end collection to be found inside, arousing our curiosity. When the sliding doors open a bright, spaceship-like interior is revealed. The walls, ceiling and floor are made entirely of a translucent polyacrylic (plastic) material, containing fluorescent tubes underneath. These tubes can be manual operated to give off a different colour thereby constantly changing the mood in the store. Whether green, purple or bright white, you feel as if you are wandering around a fascinating spaceship.

The idea behind the concept that comes care of the renowned Dutch architects’ agency Meyer & van Schooten is to create an attractive contrast to the chic and conventional neighbours on the street. Alongside Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Chanel, Shoebaloo forms a refreshing and extraordinary contrast, despite its size of just 100 m2. The outstanding shoe collection on the other hand, perfectly fits in with the high-end surroundings. Internationally acclaimed labels such as Moschino, Lanvin, Céline and Jimmy Choo make Shoebaloo a shoe lover’s paradise. The boutique not only sells footwear but also a desirable selection of matching it-bags from such top brands as Marc Jacobs, Chloé and Gucci to name but a few. Despite the list of impressive labels owner Hertog Streim does not like to put the focus on brand names: “We're not so much about brands as the quality of the products we sell, the superior quality of an item is what counts first and foremost.”
