Uebervart, Frankfurt
Frankfurt is only conceivable with a suit and necktie? Far from it! Frankfurt citizens are probably still somewhat hesitant when it comes to creative extravagance and individuality. But there are relevant ranges available in this city and the choice is getting bigger by the day. Following the successful Concept Store Uebervart at Kleiner Hirschgraben a second shop of the same name was opened four months ago and has been specialising in extravagant men’s shoes since. Its location alone, on Kaiserplatz between the Steigenberger Hotel and the “gate” to Frankfurt’s red light district, makes for many contrasts.
Walls washed in lead grey, a maze of copper tubing under the ceiling, boarded floors and rough wooden boards on the walls skilfully reflect the mix of traditional Parisian craftsmanship and New York workwear – giving shoppers a first clue that the choice of shoes and brands will also be anything but ordinary. Limited editions of renowned brands, traditional manufacturers with a history and highest quality as well as new, unknown labels are meant to create an all-round shopping experience.
"The focus is especially on quality and a story,” explains Daniel Steindorf, General Manager at Uebervart, and goes on to say “brands like Pendleton, Tanner Goods, Tricker's or Mark McNairy convey this message perfectly.” Even sneaker fans are catered to with exclusive pairs by Nike, Adidas and Vans. “We address cosmopolitan, quality-conscious shoppers with a flair for individual products,” says Steindorf describing the concept.
The men’s shoe range is “garnished” with selected magazines, cosmetics, bags and home accessories. The mix is the key: Bags by Marc Jacobs or the time-honoured label Filson.
And what’s the boss’s recommendation for this season?
“Caramel-coloured Vans by Taka Hayashi and our in-house designed brogues for Tricker’s in moss green are my favourites,” Daniel Steindorf reveals.
