Thanks to its completely turquoise look the store is particularly striking outside but its interior design is just as unconventional: A fairytale-filigree accordion pleat dress by Vena Cava dangles airily from an art installation while a pair of Acne platform pumps in cognac leather – tidily framed – hangs from the wall. All of this is embedded in snow white scenery. Welcome to the kingdom of the Mat Hatter and the Cheshire Cat. Welcome to TENOVERSIX, the multi-label store with a difference.

The store with this unusual name located on Hollywood’s famous Melrose Avenue particularly captivates shoppers with its unique looks. “When we planned TENOVERSIX we came across the song “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane and immediately associated it loosely with Alice in Wonderland,” explains Kristen Lee, one of the three owners of the store with the inimitable look.

With an extraordinary feel for zeitgeist and aesthetics TENOVERSIX has picked up on the wonderful insanity of the Wonderland scenery without just blatantly copying it. The store design all in white is the ornate interpretation of an old hat giving the store the avant-garde feel of an interactive art gallery. No day is the same.

Every single day product arrangement is revised and items are re-staged in exciting constellations. At times bright white cubes serve as display fixtures, at others it is snow white chairs that decorate the walls suspended from imaginative brackets. Be it apricot-coloured Alexander Wang booties with a cut-out heel, avantgarde 3.1 Phillip Lim sandals or private-brand pumps in coral red with built-in acrylic glass heels – the necessary colour accents for the interior concept are provided solely by the product portfolio on display.

And this has quite a lot to offer. “While the focus is unambiguously on shoes and accessories we regularly complement the assortment with things we like,” says Lee explaining the merchandise concept. This includes fashion magazines like “Fantastic Man”, photographic volumes and vinyls by such Indie bands as Rooney. Those digging even deeper will discover pots of nail varnish by Uslu Airlines in all colours of the rainbow and purist perfume flacons by Rodin and Henrik Vibskov.
