Monsieur Dubois: Contemporary, Retro and Idiosyncratic.

This extraordinary shoe store immediately strikes you when strolling through Zürich’s old town.

Monsieur Dubois is a matter close to her heart. The pledge “back to old traditions” was chosen to pay tribute to both the store and its surroundings.

Nearly all surfaces and walls are covered with glazed ceramic tiles resulting in austere looking cubes.

Pale, finely decorated tiles, all hand-painted, grace the landscape of cubes reminiscent of days gone by.

Its interior exudes Parisian Art Nouveau romanticism and the neutral “grid structure” as designed by the Florence group of designers SUPERSTUDIO back in the 70s.

The store toys with brand and styles – and price structure is hard to pigeonhole: Shoes range from EUR 100 to EUR 1,000.

The selection comes care of Lucy Prchal who acts as both the head of purchasing and manager of this charming Zürich store.

Shoppers are in for a eclectic mix and many a surprise when browsing through the ranges.

On just under 50 square metres the store offers a mix of a wide variety of brands, styles and price segments.

Their subtle decorations exude a certain airiness nevertheless.

Monsieur Dubois stocks both high-quality classics by Patrizia Pepe and Malene Birger and contemporary styles by Holy Moly or Vagabond.

The store gives you the feeling that the old, somewhat quirky shoemaker, Monsieur Dubois, is sitting in a backroom and still making these shoes by hand.

Monsieur Dubois opened in Zürich in 2009. This extraordinary shoe store immediately strikes you when strolling through Zürich’s old town. Pale, finely decorated tiles, all hand-painted, grace the landscape of cubes reminiscent of days gone by and provide the backdrop for the extravagant and refreshing line-up of modern and classic shoes and accessories.

Monsieur Dubois is a shoe store with character. Such traditional stores styled with loving attention to detail do justice to the flair of Zürich’s old town – and stand for a counter movement at the same time. Because functionally furnished shoe stores with little character are in the majority today. Monsieur Dubois is different. The underlying idea here was to create a store gives you the feeling that the old, somewhat quirky shoemaker, Monsieur Dubois, is sitting in a backroom and still making these shoes by hand. This idea from store owners H.P. Endras and Roland Brümmer is perfectly understandable – once you have visited Monsieur Dubois….
