Karl Lagerfeld

A World of Its Own

Karl Lagerfeld’s brand new shoe collection for women and men will now be on display at the forthcoming GDS. The styles are described as being iconic, luxurious, creative, hip and affordable. They are developed, produced and distributed as part of a licence agreement with British footwear specialist Overland Shoes. Deliveries go to retailers in Europe and the Middle East.

Karl Lagerfeld is a world of its own, a global guru, a force of nature, the king of the here and now, the symbol of style, the spirit of fashion. He is cultivated, cosmopolitan, inter-cultural and extremely creative. These and similar words are used to describe the famous German designer and his brand new shoe line in the Presenter.pdf.

It was announced in September 2016: Karl Lagerfeld has concluded a multi-annual licence agreement with the British footwear specialist Overland Shoes Ltd. for manufacturing its women’s and men’s shoe lines for European and Middle East markets. The lines are designed in close cooperation between the teams of both companies with Karl Lagerfeld acting as creative director. The style is influenced by the current ready-to-wear and accessories collections. Overland Shoes is in charge of development and distribution. Fine leather and other premium-quality materials are used. Production takes place in Italy for the most part. The shoes are luxurious while prices are said to be affordable.

The first collections for Autumn/Winter 2017/18 will be exhibited at GDS in Düsseldorf from 7 to 9 February. Deliveries to specialist retailers will start in June 2017. Furthermore, the shoes will be available via the web shop Karl.com and at the physical Karl Lagerfeld stores.

The look is described as being iconic, creative and cool. For women the ladies’ line Bouclé – one of Karl Lagerfeld’s favourite materials – uses this textured fabric in combination with leather for high-legged boots with Cuban heels, for laced boots with exquisite punk chains, for sporty low-top sneakers and slip-on shoes. For the Celestia line distinct pearls and studs in various shapes grace soft cowhide nappa. Here the styles include authentic biker boots, moccasins, ballerinas, slip-ons as well as pumps on tiny or very high stiletto heels. Absolutely hip is the little group called Karl Ikonic. Here soft leather slip-ons and low-tops as well as gun-metal glitter slippers feature the Karl Lagerfeld’s Mini-me appliqués or embroideries. Nearly as famous as Karl Lagerfeld himself is his cat that gave the Choupette line its name. Here booties, ballerinas, clogs, slip-ons and low-tops are decorated with whiskers. For the Glitter line pumps come with kitten heels, evening sandals feature platforms, Mary Janes sport pyramid-shaped Cuban heels, while ankle boots, slip-ons and sneakers are presented in more or less discreet silver shades. The name is the game for the themes Lacing, Pom Pom, Stud Fringe, Manoir Zip or Kuilted K.

Top products for men in the Ikonic Boot line are Chelsea boots on striking heels and zipped biker boots in high-quality nappa with leather lining and leather soles. The sporty fraction is catered to by the K/Klasp group and low and mid-top sneakers made of fine nappa and neoprene with a quick-close system that is attuned to the bag collection. A highlight here is the Vektor style for active running sports on a luxury level. As a counterpart to the women’s line the Meridian Stud theme also sports fine-nappa sneakers with studs and a heavy-metal attitude for men. Some of the styles are lined with neoprene socks. The fine velvet slippers Salotto bear the KL crest and rest on soft rubber soles while Plutone styles focus on a mixture of nappa with woven elastic bands and lightweight EVA soles. Modernised Derby shoes, monks and Chelsea boots feature as styles. Proving perfect companions for elegant suits are the Mercurio styles in shiny leather with wide woven elastic straps as clasps. The leather-look rubber soles ensure grip and are ideal for winter. Here laced and slip-on Derby shoes as well as slip-on chukkas are part of the game.

Karl Lagerfeld is well-known both under his own name and as a designer of other renowned labels. In addition to ready-to-wear collections for women and men he also designs accessories, bags, watches and eyewear. He is a passionate photographer, builds furniture, drafts stage sets, designs car bodies and even grand pianos. His sub-label Lagerfeld stands for urban menswear and fragrances. The web shop Karl.com saw the light of day in 2015 and since 2016 a children’s line has rounded off his ranges.

The British company Overland Shoes was established in London in 1987 and specialises in the design, development and sales of branded women’s and men’s shoes acting as a licensee.
